St. Louis District American Recovery and Revitalization Act projects

ARRA Projects

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is creating and saving jobs while jumpstarting the American economy.  As a part of the ARRA, $48 billion was allocated to address the nation's transportation needs -- of that, Missouri received a total of $788 million for all transportation projects (1.64 percent of the national amount).

From that, Missouri intends to spend about $525 million on roads and bridges through MoDOT, $151 million on other multimodal projects (rail, aviation and transit), $19 million on enhancement projects and $93 million to suballocation areas (MARC, East-West Gateway and Ozark Transportation Organization).

All money distributed to Missouri as part of ARRA must be obligated by March 2, 2010 -- half of that money must be obligated by June 30, 2009. ARRA also calls for departments of transportation to complete projects by February 17, 2012, to maximize job creation/economic benefit and to construct projects in economically distressed areas (61 percent of the projects across the state are in economically distressed areas.)

MoDOT didn't haphazardly select projects. The department spent a lot of time and effort consulting with partners to identify regional priorities to develop the list of projects.

In St. Louis, MoDOT and our partners identified $173.4 million in projects. They are :

* Franklin County, Route 44 - Rebuild pavement from Viaduct Street to Route 100 West
